Prep first, then paint
House painting in Auckland, starting on the North Shore
Exterior repaints, interiors, weatherboard villas and bungalows. A good paint job is mostly preparation, so that is where the quote starts.
What a repaint involves
We come out, look at the surfaces and give you a written quote. The quote lists the prep, the paint system and the number of coats for each surface, so you can compare it line by line with any other quote you get.
Painting services
Outside and in, on houses of every age. Most North Shore homes are timber, many are older than they look, and each era has its own prep needs. Start with the house painting overview, or go straight to the job you have in mind.
-
Exterior repaints
Washing, scraping, spot-priming and two finish coats on weatherboard, plaster and brick.
-
Interior painting
Walls, ceilings and trim, low-VOC paints, and a check of textured ceilings first.
-
Weatherboards and villas
Fretwork, sash windows and many layers of old paint, handled with care.
-
Lead paint in older homes
Houses from the 1980s or earlier are presumed to have it. Wet methods and careful clean-up.
-
Preparation
The hours you never see: the part of a repaint that decides how long it lasts.
-
Commercial painting
Offices, shops and body corporate buildings, planned around the people using them.
What painting costs
Published Auckland figures put an exterior repaint of a three-bedroom, single-storey house at about $5,000 to $15,500, with most between $8,000 and $14,000. Those are ranges that industry sources and painting businesses publish, not quotes. Prep, access, the number of coats and the age of the paint move a price more than anything else.
The painting cost guide splits those figures by surface, room and hourly rate, and links each source.
North Shore suburbs
We are a painting service working across Auckland, starting on the North Shore. The area pages describe the houses in each suburb from council heritage records: Devonport’s villas and cottages, the state houses of Northcote and Bayswater, the 1960s brick and block homes of the East Coast Bays.
-
Devonport
Timber villas and cottages from 1870 to 1940, on a peninsula.
-
Northcote
Villas on the Point, state houses and 1960s homes inland.
-
Birkenhead
Villas and bungalows on Birkenhead Point, newer homes on the coast.
-
East Coast Bays
Mairangi Bay, Browns Bay and Torbay: brick, block and weatherboard.
-
All areas
Bayswater and Belmont, Takapuna, Beach Haven and Milford too.
Colour and care
Short notes for the questions people ask before a repaint: how long the paint will last, when to book, which sheen goes where, how to choose colours, and what a written quote should show. Each one links the official or industry source it draws on.
-
How long exterior paint lasts
Typically 7 to 10 years, according to BRANZ, and what shortens it.
-
When to paint in Auckland
Spring is when most people book; plan ahead.
-
Reading a painting quote
What a written quote should list, line by line.
-
All colour and care notes
Sheen, paint systems and choosing exterior colours as well.
